I am an Assistant Professor of Public Administration and Democracy at the School of Social Sciences at Hasselt University. Prior to joining the School, I was affiliated with the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Business Economics of Hasselt University.
My work investigates how local public administrations govern major societal challenges, with a specific focus on the opportunities, dynamics and challenges of democratic innovations and digital transformation. My most recent research addresses how local municipal councils can be strengthened to tackle major contemporary societal challenges, the strategic role data can play in evidence-informed policymaking, and the essential conditions under which digitalization leads to inclusive, accessible public services. These research projects are embedded in initiatives such as the Steunpunt Bestuurlijke Vernieuwing (2026–2030) and cross-border Interreg projects.
I currently teach courses in political science and public administration, as well as (interdisciplinary) research methodology. In both teaching and research, I regularly collaborate with local administrations and civil society organizations through projects, advisory work, and presentations.
